DOHERTY CALLS ON HEALTH MINISTER TO CLARIFY THE FUTURE OF HSE TRAINING CENTRE

first_imgSinn Féin’s Finance Spokesperson Deputy Pearse Doherty is calling on the Health Minister to clarify the future of the Cleary Centre in Donegal Town. Pearse Doherty TDDeputy Doherty made his comments about the HSE managed facility which provides services and training for adults with disabilities following recent uncertainty surrounding the long term future of the unit.“I will be raising this matter with the Health Minister next week once the Dáil resumes as I believe that the on-going uncertainty facing both service users and staff of the Cleary Centre is totally unacceptable.” “Last November, the Parents and Friends’ Association of the centre were informed that the building which houses the service was no longer fit for purpose and that alternative accommodation was being sought for service users by the HSE.”“However, last month following a Day Service review meeting, representatives from the Parents and Friends’ Association were told that one of the options currently being considered is to relocate current users to other existing day service centres in the County – effectively disbanding the Cleary Centre and removing the facility from Donegal Town.”“Understandably, the staff and all those who avail of the unit’s services are extremely worried and fearful about this proposal which would ultimately see the termination of this important local facility.”“For well over twenty years now the Cleary Centre has provided exceptional care to all those who have attended the unit and has been a fantastic social outlet for people with disabilities as well as for their families.” “I plan to highlight this matter with the Minister in the coming days and I will be asking him to clearly outline what plans he has for the long term future of the centre and also I will be asking that the Minister states if he has any plans to relocate the centre’s current service users to other facilities.”DOHERTY CALLS ON HEALTH MINISTER TO CLARIFY THE FUTURE OF HSE TRAINING CENTRE was last modified: June 3rd, 2015 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:newsPoliticslast_img read more
