Shaban Lubega: PML Daily Premier League team of the Week Eight

first_img Tags: Pml daily team of the weektop Martial was unstoppable in the second half as United overcame Newcastle 3-2 on SaturdayLast weekend saw Manchester United register their first victory in three Premier League matches thanks to a hard-fought 3-2 come-back victory over Newcastle United. There were also routine wins for Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham in their respective fixtures. In the battle for top spot, Man City missed a late penalty in a fiercely contested fixture at Liverpool that ended all square on Sunday. And in the bottom half, only Brighton and Everton managed victories as six of the rooted seven lost their respective fixtures. Here are the 11 players that stood out for me in game week four:GK. Kepa Arrizabalaga (Chelsea).A third league clean sheet for the world’s most expensive goal keeper as Chelsea cruised to a 3-0 victory at Southampton on Sunday. Kepa pulled off a superb save to deny Nathan Redmond in the second half, one that can easily be attributed to the money he cost from Bilbao last summer.CB. Hector Bellerin (Arsenal). He may not have lived up to the promise he showed two years ago but against Fulham, Bellerin was solid down the right and setup Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for his strike that made it 4-1.Hector Bellerin has already made two assists the League this term, having made three in 35 outings in the competition in 2017-18.CB. Wily Boly(Wolves).Nuno Espirito Santo’s men picked up a hard-fought 1-0 win away at Crystal Palace, and the Frenchman’s assured display at the back was crucial in their success.  Boly made more tackles (4) and blocks (1) than any other Wolves player in their win at Selhurst Park.CB. Joe Gomez (Liverpool). What a player Gomez is turning out to be at Anfield. Whether at Center-back or full-back, the young Englishman continues to impress under Jurgen Klopp. Against City on Sunday, he was at it again, being solid on the right throughout the game.Liverpool have only lost one of the last 25 games that Joe Gomez has played in the Premier League.MF. Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspurs).Dier scored Spurs’ winning goal against Cardiff, while also recovering possession on eight occasions; a team-high total.MF. Lucas Torreira (Arsenal). He might have been the smallest man on the field but that didn’t stop the Uruguay international from being the most dynamic individual against Fulham.Arsenal have won each of the three Premier League games that Lucas Torreira has started, with the team keeping two clean sheets in that time (one goal conceded).MF. Gylfi Sigurdsson (Everton).Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson’s 50th Premier League goal makes him the second Icelandic player to reach the milestone in the competition. In addition to scoring the winner against Leicester on Saturday, no Everton player had more shots (4) or made more key passes (4) than Sigurdsson.MF. Ross Barkley (Chelsea).A slow start doesn’t necessarily guarantee no success. At least that is what Ross Barkely is portraying at Chelsea under Maurizzio Sarri this season after appearing to fail miserably under Antonio Conte. The Englishman is slowly turning into an integral figure in the Chelsea team and on Sunday, he became the first Englishman to score and assist in a Premier League game for Chelsea since Frank Lampard in December 2013.FW. Anthony Martial (Manchester United).Football is a game of two halves indeed. Whoever watched United’s comeback at home to Newcastle can at least attest to that especially when you try to digest Martial’s performance on the day. He was at the heart of everything good for United going in the last half forward after an average show in the first 45 minutesFW. Edin Hazard (Chelsea).Yet another masterclass from Hazard against Southampton. Without doubt the best player in the Premier League and on current form. Barkley might have been the Blues’ man of the match, but Hazard opened the scoring with his seventh goal of the campaign and was, again, flawless.FW. Alexandre Lacazatte (Arsenal). The Frenchman scored with both of his shots on target against Fulham, taking his scoring tally to four for the 2018-19 PL campaign.Comments last_img read more
